spring fever: steel windows

I hope you'll indulge me a few posts about spring, because I've got the fever :) Anyone else dying to get outside and clean all the windows? Something about spring and getting the maximum sunshine into this house...
This has led to a "rooms with a view" board on pinterest, with swoon-worthy shots like this...

It may skew toward steel windows, lol. I love them. As in, if I ever win the lottery I will be immediately ripping out every single builders-grade monstrosity we have here! How about steel windows as an interior wall? Genius, right? Are any of you lucky enough to have an expanse of these beauties in your space? x am

yay or nay: hang a hammock...inside!

 Do any of you watch Survivor? It's a guilty pleasure 'round here, with D., I  and the kids plopping ourselves down in front of the idiot box every week to watch as people proclaim their values morally superior and then scheme the demise of every ally they have :) Why am I mentioning this? This season there is a character this season named "Tarzan" (yup, he really calls himself that), who refuses to discuss his strategy each week, saying cryptically, "the game is afoot". He's a bit of an odd duck, but the phrase has stuck with me.

Spring is afoot here. The air smells differently then it did a week ago. I'm dreaming of sunshine, and lemonade, and starry evenings with friends. And hammocks. Reading books, snuggles with the darlings and afternoon  naps in hammocks.... But really, why only enjoy this a few months of the year? These people bucked tradition and installed hammocks in their homes - SO wish I had the space for this!

SO wish I had the space to do this! I especially like the black hammock hung in that nook off the room containing nothing but a piano. That room lives in my dream home, lol.  What do you think of this? Is it something you would ever do?

Anthropologie: the magazine

This morning I received an email from Anthropologie announcing their new magazine. If you've been reading for a while you'll know my love for this store runs deep, and the thought of an entire magazine full of artisan goodness had me giddy. Turns out it's really more of a blog, with several stories linked up on one page. That's okay, I'll take it :)

 The Palm Springs story is aces, featuring the work of Albert Frey and Richard Neutra, and the resulting photography from the trip became part of the photo print collection.

There's also snaps on pinterest, if you'd care to see them. I'm heading over to revel in re-pinning. Yes, I said re-pinning. The post about Pinterest got some really lively commentary going, which I loved. One blogger even sent me a comment in private, because she thought that me may get sandbagged for her views. First she fells that we are shirking our responsibility a little, pinning merrily away, without ensuring credit is being given to the owner of the content. Second, she fells once an image is out there, it's out there. Personally, I'm all done wavering about Pinterest. I will try to be respectful and link back to original sources, I will begin watermarking my own photos to make it easier for others to do the same, and I will enjoy the plethora of visual beauty. Hopefully we can make it work without losing the the essence of the site, because it's such a wonderful concept.

On that note :) Happy Easter, loves! I must have been tired last night, because when we got home from grocery shopping I realized a few dozen Peeps had hitched a ride, lol! Chocolate dipped and be-sprinkled Peeps and cupcakes topped with the marshmallow creatures are a tradition around here, so I guess that's what Miss N. and Miss C. will be doing today! We are only hosting one small dinner this year, and travelling for the other two. A very relaxed weekend lies ahead... you? Hope your holiday is full of love and laughter - x

the two-headboard look....

We are finally beginning the search for a new bed frame for our room because the one that we have, albeit beautiful, is supremely uncomfortable. If I HAVE to be practical (ugh!) that means my first choice in headboards, the Hacienda from Casamidy, is also out...

So fantastical - especially in the gold, right? But I know I'd wake up bleeding.... and although in the past I've lusted after giant upholstered headboards and Anthro's campaign canopy, today I find myself strangely drawn to these....

Not sure whether it's the extra detailing or the symmetry, but a kijiji/cragslist purchase is lurking suggestively on the horizon...

Right - time to stop shopping and start working :) Catch you all on friday - x

yay or nay: deconstructed seating

Hello lovelies! A huge mwah to all the amazing women who shared their colour crushes the past two weeks - I loved seeing what inspired each of you. Thank you so much for filling10 Rooms with beauty in my absence.



We generally don't take too many photos on vacation, but I did manage a few good ones - will share in a few days. The highlight of the trip was our time in St Thomas - it's our second time there and it may just be my favourite place on earth.

I'm not sure if everyone experiences this, but getting away from our everyday life allows me to come back and look at everything with fresh eyes. We were living in a much smaller space while we were away, with so few "things" around us, and coming home and seeing all this excess makes me realize we need to simplify here. Since the kids have nixed moving again (hunger strikes were threatened at the very mention, lol!), I guess that means doing some serious spring cleaning. Time to clean out the house, again :) Where does it all come from?!!

So thinking about re-purposing and up cycling have produced this post - I am interested in your take on the deconstructed furniture trend that keeps popping up...

first saw this from Dan Marty via House Beautiful in May 2010. He said he felt the backs of his dining chairs were too pretty to cover up - note the armchair in the foreground - it's upholstery is missing a few elements as well.

I'm sure that you've seen Restoration Hardware's take on the look in their spring collection....

I didn't think this look would really catch on as a trend, but I keep bumping into it everywhere....
