yay or nay: the floral rug

um...
sorry it's been a while since I've posted, lovelies, but promise that I have turned a corner and will be back by a little more!

We are moving again (deadly-long-story-that's-another-post) and have been caught up in the madness that goes along with that...

In any case, my favorite print of the moment is anything floral (here comes the huge return to "pretty" rooms) and floral rugs in particular have got my heart doing little pitter-patters...a little pile of these images has been gathering on my home screen, and so I thought I'd see if any of you are feeling the love with me...

Yummy. So. Although I'm technically not supposed to buy anything for the new place until after we've moved, something along these lines may arrive a wee bit early - can't blame a girl for being organized, can you?!

see anything that tickles your fancy? Too granny or are floral rugs poised far a huge comeback?

Please share a yay or a nay...

dhurrie dreams and a thank you

the patterns and colors of dhurries are always a delight

and you all know how much I love a patterned carpet....

we've seen them used as upholstery with great effect -

that wee loveseat is on my wishlist....

and this one even works as a tablecloth...

but this idea?  THIS idea is genius....

just makes me want to break out the paintbrush!

If any of your know more about this room, please share details!
I found it on pinterest... isn't that where we find everything these days?!

I'd also like to say thank you to Megan (A Lived in Home) today,
for sending the One lovely Blog award my way -

you're a sweetheart, Megan!

I always appreciate your thoughtful comments around here - x

If you haven't explored Megan's blog yet, pop over,
she's got a great style and an adorable little one, Ava,
who makes star appearances frequently :)

The color posts have been a bit thin lately, we're on summer hours round here, lol.
But next week I'm going to tackle another grey + color post, maybe green,
since so many of your expressed interest in it, which was a surprise to me!

And,
the oldest darling and I have been working on a few bits in her room,
I'll post some pics shortly -

x

How floors can give your room new life

With our lives becoming busier and busier, quite often my clients prefer the serenity of neutral walls.
But add neutral walls to neutral furnishings and your room
can begin to resemble the local furniture showroom.

How to add some interest?

Boldy patterned/colored area rugs offer up a perfect solution.

This dining room is one of my all-time favourites,
comfortable and welcoming, a tough of whimsy, nothing too precious -
a place to relax and spend an evening.

traditional carpets add a more subtle layer of pattern...

but the overdyed versions are spectacular!

bold florals and patterns working their magic

Stripes: one of a designer's secret weapons!
Stripes lead the eye wherever you like -
on the floor they are great for adding width to a narrow space, or defining a focal point.

I even like a spot of plush outdoors, although this would never survive our climate.

What if you like the look but don't have room in the budget, or don't want to make a major investment because of kids, dogs, etc...?

Carissa of The Fabulous Design File has a fab diy addressing this.

She painted a regular carpet -
something I've just recommended to another client who needs some pattern on the floor,
but has a large dog and has to replace carpeting fairly frequently.

I'm going to attempt this for my own office -
(show you when I'm done)
where two chocolate labs are always lounging at my feet :)

what about you?

Would you use a bold carpet?

How The Rug Company Does Art

We all love the Rug Company for, well, rugs!

They consistently stock beautiful product that is ahead of the current trends.

The home of proprietors Christopher and Suzanne Sharp dazzled in vogue last winter..

So how do two rugophiles combine their love of textiles and art?

Artist created tapestries were the focus of
the arts commissioning organization the Sharps set up in 2008,

Here artists were asked to explore the art of tapestry creation..

Caroioca, Beatriz Milhazes

Mappa del Mundo, Gavin Turk

Trump, Francesca Lowe

Incredible, non?
Two of these are on display in the first and last pics of the Sharps home..
These were not available to the public.

But now the Rug Company  has begun offering wallhangings,
part of a brilliant collaboration with some creative geniuses...

This one is my favourite..

Love Too by Paul Smith | Wool and Silk Wallhanging

Have you ever used a wallhanging?
I've always considered them a traditional element, reminders of a faded glory,
but these are so fresh and modern..
I think I may be about to :)

til next time..
